Will 2021 be the Year of Lasting Changes? Check out these 5 simple steps to follow:
1. Set SMART goals
We all have our goals from our new year’s resolutions! But have you been SMART about them? How much weight do you want to lose? When do you want to lose it by? How are you going to measure it? These are all important factors in establishing realistic goals to give you a road map to success before you even start! Check the comments section for a link to a previous article I’ve written on SMART goals.
2. Remember the 5 P’s
Proper Preparation Prevents Piss-Poor Performance!
If you’re someone like me you probably love to just wing everything (especially the things you should definitely not wing) you’ve probably even gotten pretty good at getting away with it quite often! But eventually, we all get caught out, and it’s often in these moments our health kicks break down! So with just a little bit of planning of: when you plan to eat, when you plan to train, when you plan to sleep, you can give yourself a better chance at succeeding!
3. Have a contingency plan
This one ties in perfectly with the point above! We can all attempt to plan out every moment of our day until the cows come home! But what about when those plans go out the window? Stuck in traffic and late for your appointment at the gym? Didn’t get the chance to go grocery shopping and you don’t have anything healthy to eat in the cupboard? What can you do to minimize the impact of slip-ups like these on your weekly and long term goals?
4. Focus on mindset
A vast majority of people who fail at their goals come from a negative mindset! Especially from an “all or nothing” mentality. Changing that “I suck at this/it’s too hard” outlook into a “why CAN’T I?” Mentality instead is a huge step in the right direction!
5. Do something different
Albert Einstein is often quoted saying – “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
And this could not be more true when it comes to health and fitness-related goals! Every year people go back to things that don’t work for them, try to stick to it, fail then get down on themselves for it not working again! It could be a different training program, it could be training at a different time of the day, it could be a nutrition program more suited to your lifestyle. No matter what it is, find that broken link in the chain, try something different and you might just find it sticks this time.
