Here are the most common mistakes people make in their fat loss journey:
1. You lack awareness
Your dieting history, training age, and how your body copes with stress all play a major role in how your body is going to adapt to your program. Sometimes, it doesn’t even make sense to dive into a fat loss phase immediately.
2. You avoiding tracking
It’s very common that people underestimate the amount of food they consume daily. The reason that you may not be getting the results you want or as quickly that you want is hidden in your daily routine and habits. You need data. If you can’t assess you won’t know if you’re on the right track. If you don’t know that you are on the right track, how will you ever know when you are going to hit your goal? Tracking is a tool that gives you control, and without control, it becomes damn near impossible to create lasting change.
3. You’re using a template meal plan
Google meal plans for fat loss right now and I guarantee you will get 40,600,000 results, everybody is a unique individual and those plans were not created specifically for you. They don’t take into account your dieting history, training age, or the demands of your everyday life.
4. You don’t eat enough food
This falls under the line of tracking, and building awareness as well. If you aren’t consuming enough calories to support the demands of your lifestyle your body is not going to lose fat (while there are exceptions to this rule) is it not very likely. Example, let’s say that Catherine is under eating. She is taking in 1200 calories and is not losing weight. She finds a calorie calculator that helps her determine how many calories she needs to take in to lose weight and that number comes out to be 1700, at that intake she is going to gain weight pretty quickly. Now I’m not saying that these tools aren’t useful. However, you must have a certain level of awareness and data to know how to apply it the right way.
5. You have neglected to look at bio-feedback
How are your energy levels? Are you getting quality sleep at night? Are you extremely stressed? Mentally and emotionally do you wake up feeling focused or are you dragging? Are you in tune with your body’s hunger cues? If your answers are similar to this to the questions above (low energy, no, very stressed, I wake up tired, I never get hungry), your body’s internal environment is not ready to lose fat quite yet)
Honestly, I don’t think that it’s your fault that it may be your first time hearing this perspective, but now you can never say that you don’t know.
Bonus:
You have the means but have chosen not to invest in your health and wellness. Think about it this way: if you invest 1% (9-10 months) of your life, you can improve 99% of it.
