Exercise Workouts for Flat Stomach: Get Rid of Belly Fat

Hey there! If you’re here, it’s because you’re probably trying to get a flat stomach, right?

I get it—belly fat can be super frustrating.

The good news is, with the right workouts for a flat stomach, you can absolutely make it happen.

But before we dive into the exercises, let’s be clear on one thing: abs are made in the gym, but they’re revealed in the kitchen. Yep, nutrition is just as important as your workout routine.

Now, don’t worry! In this post, I’ll show you the best ab exercises for toning your core and talk a bit about how to tackle that stubborn belly fat. Plus, I’ve got a YouTube workout you can follow to help you kick things off.

Can You Burn Belly Fat with Ab Exercises Alone?

Here’s the honest13-Minute truth—no single exercise can burn belly fat all by itself. To lose fat, especially around your stomach, you need a mix of things:

  1. Consistent exercise (not just abs but full-body workouts)
  2. A clean diet
  3. Good sleep and stress management

But here’s the great news: while you’re losing fat through cardio and healthy eating, you can build strong abs underneath with targeted core exercises. Once the fat starts melting off, those defined muscles will show.

Best Workouts for a Flat Stomach

So, let’s get into the real deal. These are some of the best ab exercises you can do at home (no equipment needed!) that target the entire core. You can follow along with my YouTube workout to see how to do each one perfectly.

  1. Plank
    • One of the simplest but most effective moves. The plank targets your entire core, back, and even shoulders.
    • Hold it for 30 seconds to 1 minute. If you’re a beginner, start with 15 seconds and work your way up.
  2. Bicycle Crunches
    • Lie on your back, bring your knees up to a 90-degree angle, and alternate bringing each elbow to the opposite knee while extending the other leg.
    • This works your upper and lower abs, as well as the obliques (those side muscles that give you that defined “V” shape).
  3. Mountain Climbers
    • Start in a high plank position and quickly alternate bringing your knees to your chest, like you’re running on the spot.
    • It’s a great move to get your heart rate up while also engaging your core. Do it for 30 seconds.
  4. Leg Raises
    • Lying flat on your back, keep your legs straight and lift them until they form a 90-degree angle with your body, then lower them slowly without letting them touch the floor.
    • This exercise targets the lower abs, which are the hardest to tone but super important for that flat stomach look.
  5. Russian Twists
    • Sit on the floor with your knees bent, feet off the ground, and twist your torso from side to side, tapping the floor with your hands on each side.
    • This is excellent for sculpting your obliques and tightening up your waistline.

Pair Your Ab Workouts with Cardio

Like I said earlier, you can have the strongest abs in the world, but if they’re hidden under fat, no one (including you) will see them.

That’s why it’s important to pair your ab exercises with cardio workouts.

This could be anything from running, cycling, HIIT, or even dancing—anything that gets your heart rate up and burns calories.

I love mixing my ab days with some quick HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) to maximize fat burn. You don’t need to spend hours on this—20-30 minutes of high-intensity work can make a HUGE difference.

Don’t Forget Nutrition!

As a fitness expert, I can’t stress this enough: abs are built in the kitchen! If you want that flat stomach, you need to pay attention to what you’re eating. Focus on:

  • Protein (lean meats, fish, eggs, beans)
  • Healthy fats (avocados, nuts, olive oil)
  • Whole grains (brown rice, oats, quinoa)
  • Lots of veggies and fruits

And cut back on:

  • Sugary drinks (soda, energy drinks)
  • Processed foods (chips, cookies, etc.)
  • Alcohol (it can add extra calories and slow fat loss)
