Lifestyle Accountability Partner: The Missing Piece in Your Fitness Journey

Accountability: The Missing Puzzle Piece in Your Fitness Journey

Think you might be lacking accountability in your health and fitness routine? Let me know if the following sounds familiar:

You wake up one day that you’re ready for some big changes.

You spend hours looking up fitness routines.

Being diligent and writing them in your calendar.

Sharing out your plan with friends and family.

Maybe even stop by the store to get a cute outfit.

Alright world, here I come!  Right?

The first day is filled with energy.  Sure, there may be a hick up or two but you got it done.  You’re on the path to a new life!

Week 2 begins, you start to wonder why the scale isn’t moving as fast as you envisioned or even going in the wrong direction.  You continue on though, I mean progress takes time right?

Week 3 comes along, it may be getting harder to get up at 5am to head to the gym.  Motivation may be waning at this point.

Fun fact: it takes 21 days to make a new habit.  Most people don’t make it to that point when they do not have an accountability system in place.

Does this scenario sound familiar?  I know that I went through this many times myself and still do to this day.

Is Accountability Your Missing Piece?

The times that I’ve been successful long term had one critical piece of the puzzle in place: an accountability partner.

What exactly does an accountability partner do?

  • Helps with regular check ins – the scale throws you a curve ball?  Having someone on your side can help you interpret what the scale is really telling you.

  • Offering support and motivation – having someone around to help lift you up is powerful.  Being able to do the same for those around you is even more so.

  • Making accountability part of the routine – share your wins and challenges in an open format and with those that “get it.”

  • Helping with setting clear and achievable goals – having a sounding board for your goals can be invaluable, your partners will be able to tell you if your goals are clear and achievable.  They may even be there to push you to reach the next level.

In short, having an accountability partner that is in your corner can often be the difference between success and failure.
