Which one is better for fat loss: cardio or resistance training?
Firstly, you need to decide what your ultimate goals are and really be specific! Is it weight loss, is it muscle growth, is it just improving general health?
If your goal is to improve your general health & fitness, then I would choose both!
Both resistance training and cardio bring the body huge benefits when focusing on improving health. Cardio will increase your heart strength and mental well-being if you do your cardio outside, and resistance training will mainly build muscle which subsequently strengthens other internal functions like bone & joint health and efficiency!
If your goal is to build muscle or become leaner or stronger, then obviously you need to choose resistance training. This doesn’t mean you can’t do any cardio at all, I always recommend a little bit to strengthen the heart.
If your goal is to lose fat, then your main concern is regarding your diet – you need to be in a calorie deficit in order to lose fat (meaning your body is using more calories than it’s consuming – see my previous post for more details)! You can increase your calorie expenditure through either cardio or resistance training or both so whatever your preference and whatever you ENJOY that will make the journey sustainable and long term!
However, I always recommend at least a little bit of resistance training over cardio. That’s because the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn sitting down!
I repeat, more muscle = more calories burned naturally = increased metabolism!
So it is always optimal to increase your muscle size if you enjoy eating food but still want to lose weight! Gals, I promise you will not get bulky, you’ll feel stronger and sexier than ever!
I hope this helps!!
