Why and how to count macros
Maybe you’d heard this, maybe not? “If it fits in your macros” (IIFYM), also known as flexible dieting, has become very popular during the last 5 years.
Counting your MACROS, or macronutrients, consists of counting your Proteins, Carbohydrates, and Fats. Depending on your goals, you will be given a set amount of each in order to achieve your goal.
Should You Count Macros?
For some, it is a sigh of relief. They get to eat more of what they love, or at least be able to allow for a “cheat” every now and then. (More on that in future writings)
For others, it’s yet another venue to control their eating.
Consider this:
WRITING EVERYTHING DOWN THAT GOES IN YOUR MOUTH
What a daunting undertaking!! For most people, just being able to get some quality food on their plate is enough, let alone trying to figure out what is a carb, protein, and fat!
What did our ancestors do? Did they write down everything they ate and every activity they did? NO. They ate to feed their bodies, moved a lot, and didn’t worry about the occasional piece of pie that was eaten. Their lives revolved around God, family, work, and recreation. Not around food.
My fear with the logging of food is that is will become the next obsession. Will we worry about getting our numbers where they should be? Will we worry if we are getting enough protein? Enough fat? Enough carbs?
Let’s simplify life. Love. Live. Eat. Play.
