First of all, I congratulate you on taking action to find a trainer and explore online training. You may have thought about doing something like this for a while and this is the perfect first step to getting the ball rolling. Just doing this search has put you on the path to progress and never forget that progress, no matter how small, is edging you closer and closer to achieving your goal.
When looking for that perfect trainer, you can save yourself time by exploring 2 questions.
The first question is: “What exactly would be the most helpful to you?”. In other words, what exactly would you like help with? Do you need help finding exercises that are specific to your needs and that are also exercises that you enjoy? Or, do you need guidance with exercises you already have established? Or, do you need help with accountability? Do you need help with modifying your lifestyle, or do you have habits that you definitely want to change? It could be all of those or one or two of those or different reasons altogether. Take the time to think about and clarify this because once you know exactly what you’re looking for, you’ll have a specific target to aim at and it’ll be easier with that level of focus to find the perfect trainer.
The other crucial question is “what are your obstacles?”. What has typically knocked you off track or stopped you from doing the things you need to do to meet your goals? Is it a lack of knowledge or time or energy? What exactly has gotten in your way in the past? Whatever it is, don’t worry. Trainers are skilled with techniques to help you overcome these obstacles. If you start with being able to answer these two questions right away and communicating these during your interview process, you’ll have a head start on finding that perfect trainer and it’ll be much easier to put an action plan together immediately.
There are a lot of good trainers out there that can help you with all of that but try to find one that resonates with you, has good listening skills, and shares the same philosophy towards fitness as you do. This is an important journey so you should find yourself a good fit for your personality and your goals.
