Starting something new can sometimes feel like you’re walking into the great unknown. Not sure what to expect or what may happen or how to overcome resistance from those around you.
When you are starting a fitness journey there are a lot of changes
Some changes can be overwhelming, one of the biggest changes may be the way your friends, family, and co-workers interact with you.
You may notice some resistance from those around you. It’s nothing personal, but it happens. How do I know this? Because it happened to me, and it still does! It may start with a comment being made about your goals, nutrition, time spent at the gym, etc. It may be a jab made at you or about what you’re doing, it may be them trying to sabotage you or just plain judging you.
How do you get past that?
You ignore it! You acknowledge that anyone behaving that way is doing it out of their own insecurities. They are doing it bc they don’t have the balls to do what you are doing! They are doing it because it scares them, you are bettering yourself and they are staying in the same place, week after week, month after month, year after year.
Do not, I repeat do not let them have an effect on you! Do not give them a reaction!
Smile, nod and walk away!
I highly recommend writing out “your why” on a post-it and put it somewhere that you see daily, whether that be on the bathroom mirror, somewhere in your car, the backdrop of your phone even. Anytime you are struggling go back to “your why.”
Keep doing your thing! Nothing about this journey is easy if it was easy everyone would do it.
The funny thing is while you are doing your thing, hitting your goals and making that progress they are watching. It is contagious, some of your family and friends may join in.
