Staying motivated all the time is hard as we all know. There are good and bad days and that is normal. Nonetheless, there are things you can do regularly to keep your motivation going for a little longer when it comes to achieving your fitness goals.
1) Find a workout partner
Having somebody else by your side helps to increase accountability and also pushes you to do better as both of you motivate each other. Take advantage of the element of competition and fun that brings having a friend do the same workout with you. When the sets are getting hard, some words of encouragement can go a long way. You guys can challenge each other to increase the load or the number of reps or even set goals together to accomplish every week. We are more inclined to stay motivated when we surround ourselves with like minded or same goal-oriented people.
2) Find a gym that you like and get a membership
The environment plays a big role in how we feel including the people around us. If you like a clean and fancy gym then put yourself in that environment and you will more likely enjoy going there. You may have to check out different gyms in your area to find the best one that meets your needs. Pay attention to the things you value the most, perhaps is cleanliness, the gym equipment, or the amenities.
3) Track or log your workout weights
If you can see that you are lifting heavier week after week or performing more reps you will feel better about yourself even if there has not been much change in the way you look in the mirror to a bigger boost in motivation.
4) Treat yourself
With a new pair of workout shoes, a new outfit, or a new supplement stack to support your goals. Some people find it helpful to look good at the gym or to have their supplements to support their hard work in the gym. There is nothing more powerful than treating yourself with something that will support your goals. If you are a runner, a good pair of running shoes will make your feet happy and provide the cushion necessary to prevent injuries. If you are a weight lifter, having protein snacks and other supplements on hand to achieve all your macros for the day can make your day easier and free up time to do other things. These are just some examples, but there are endless things you can gift yourself that will enhance your fitness lifestyle.
5) Follow a program that will lead you in the direction you want to go
Many people get discouraged when they don’t know if what they’re doing is actually what they should be doing. Not every exercise or meal plan works for everybody. Copying what others are doing may not always lead to the results you want to see.
Therefore you have to either educate yourself on the subject matter or get help from a professional in the field that can give you the tools to be successful. Numbers don’t lie. You can download a fitness log app, type it up on your phone notes, or keep a dairy by hand where you can easily access these numbers on a weekly basis to compare progress. To supplement this, you can also match what you see on your log with how you look.
