Transitioning slowly into new habits really is the key to long term success.
Going into things head first can often lead you to crash at the bottom of the shallow end of the pool.
The majority of our habits happen without very much thought from us.
So why do we then think that we’re going to be able to change those fundamental habits if we aren’t even aware that we’re doing many of them?
Going with smaller changes and letting them cumulate over time. Being consistent throughout the way.
Now that’s when the magic really starts to happen.
Small Habits You Can Start Building Now
What are some small habits that you can adopt today, right now in fact, in order to improve your overall health?
- Going to bed 15 minutes earlier – Put your phone away and allow yourself to recharge for an extra 15 minutes a day to start. You’ll be surprised how that quickly grows into 20, 30 minutes within a blink of an eye. Note any changes in your energy with this change and give yourself a pat on the back.
- Drinking more water – Replacing your bubbly soda for fresh water is a great way to reduce your daily calorie intake and to help keep you hydrated. Muscles need water to grow and perform, water them a bit more to see a change in performance.
- Eating out less often – Yes it’s convenient but you really don’t know how that food is being prepared. Has it been made with an entire stick of butter? You don’t know and quickly don’t care because it tastes so good. Think about the impact it could have on your health if you ate out one less time during the week.
- Going on a daily walk – I live in MN so walking can get a bit more complicated during the winter. Mall walking is still a thing, try it out. You’ll get a boost of endorphins that will keep you more alert during the day and you may even meet a new friend or two.
That’s it.
You don’t have to reinvent the wheel to improve your health.
Sometimes it’s all about focusing on the small and SUSTAINABLE things first to see success.
