If you are anything like me you have dedicated hours upon hours in the gym grinding away at the same weights and doing the same workouts over and over again. This is fun and those involved in the fitness community love it, however over time it can get tedious and eventually change is needed. Here’s why you should take your workouts outdoors!
A few months ago I was in the gym doing cardio in an attempt to look decent by the time summer came around. When it finally hit me, why am I doing this inside, alone, while I could be outside getting some much needed vitamin D and fresh air. When it comes to cardio most people prefer the treadmill, every winter we see loads of people running , jogging, or even walking to try to shed pounds. But why do we do this? Why do we drive to the gym just to do something we can do outside of our homes. It is because it feels familiar to us, and we feel safe in the gym. This is the exact reason why you should attempt to bring your workouts outdoors, it will get you out of your comfort zone and push you to new limits.
Vitamin D intake
The benefits are endless, but the first one is the much needed vitamin D intake. Vitamin D helps develop strong bones by allowing the body to absorb more calcium. This is especially good for the older generation who are more likely to injure a bone. Many elderly people go to the gym to walk around and enjoy simple cardio machines. If the weather is nice outside can easily be substituted for the gym.
Performing workouts outdoors will push your body to new limits
When you run on the treadmill you are running at a steady pace on the same level for the duration of the workout. Outside there are hills, obstacles, and challenges that will benefit your body in ways that no piece of gym equipment can.
Whether you are jogging, walking, or biking there are sure to be challenges along with endless opportunities to grow.
