Lifestyle The Mental Shift to Live More Authentically

What if I told you the labels you cling to for clarity are the very prisons that keep you trapped?

“Success,” “failure,” “strong,” “weak” — these words shape our identities, but they also build walls around our true selves.

Today, let’s shatter those walls together and step into the freedom of living intentionally and authentically.

The Comfort and Cost of Labels

Labels offer comfort in chaos.

They give us a sense of order, a way to navigate the world. But what happens when the labels no longer fit?

What if they’re not who you are but who society says you should be?

Living by these labels creates a life of predictability, which can become stale, suffocating, and disconnected.

The Weight of Expectations

Ironically, the very clarity we crave from labels can lead to chaos when we outgrow them.

This is the invisible weight so many of us carry — boxed in by expectations, craving authenticity but fearing the uncertainty that comes without labels.

The challenge with evaporating labels is the initial sense of chaos that follows.

Finding Balance Between Clarity and Freedom

Labels create clarity and help us navigate the complexities of life. But too much clarity can lead to rigidity, and life loses its dynamic, evolving essence.

This rigidity can bring a different kind of chaos — the chaos of feeling stuck, uninspired, and disconnected from our true selves.

The journey isn’t about abandoning clarity but redefining it through intention, trust, and a willingness to embrace the unknown.

My Personal Journey with this Mental Shift

I’ve worn many labels in my life: soldier, athlete, coach.

Each one gave me clarity at a point when I needed it most.

When I left the UK military, I clung to the label of “ex-soldier” to give me a sense of identity. But over time, I realized it wasn’t who I was anymore.

It was a mask, and wearing it only kept me from fully stepping into the person I wanted to become.

Embracing Change and Uncertainty

Moving to Dubai, stepping away from structure, and building my life as a freelance wellbeing and performance coach felt like peeling off layers of old labels.

It was terrifying.

I found myself in chaos again, but this time, instead of reaching for another label, I leaned into the unknown.

I trusted the process, chose to live with intention, and embraced being unapologetically myself. And that’s when everything began to change.

This process inspired me to start my YouTube channel, a space where I could share these lessons and challenge common perspectives that a lot of humans struggle with on a day to day basis. Most of these perspectives are what keep people stuck and the system happy. The system wants you to feel this way.

I flirted with the idea now and again and put out a few videos but never fully committed to it because deep down, I was scared of judgement and labelled myself as not being good on youtube.

See how this works, our labels help us forge our identities but when they no longer serve us they can become toxic and paralysing.

It’s been incredible to create a platform for exploring life’s deeper questions and encouraging others to shed their labels too.

By creating thought-provoking content on YouTube, I aim to inspire meaningful conversations and self-reflection.

Hear me out, breaking free from labels doesn’t mean living in chaos forever.

It’s about learning to trust the universe, finding clarity in your intentions, and embracing the beauty of becoming.

Your Guide to Creating a Mental Shift

Here’s how you can start:

  1. Identify Your Labels: Take a moment to write down the labels you use to define yourself. Ask yourself: Who am I, If someone asked me who I was, what would I answer ? Are these empowering, or are they boxing you in?
  2. Challenge the Narratives: For each label, ask: “Is this who I want to be?” If the answer is no, give yourself permission to let go and redefine your identity.
  3. Live with Intention: Define what matters most to you. Instead of clinging to labels, align your actions with your values and goals. What do you value ? How do you want to think, feel & act on a daily basis ?
  4. Embrace Uncertainty: Growth comes from discomfort. The less you fear the unknown, the more you allow yourself to evolve into your true self and flow with life.
  5. Redefine Clarity: Instead of seeking clarity through labels, find it in your purpose and passions. Trust that clarity evolves as you do.

Questions for Self-Reflection

  • What’s one label you’ve clung to that no longer serves you?
  • Who would you be if you let go of every label you’ve ever been given?
  • What does it mean to you to live unapologetically?
  • How does seeking clarity sometimes hold you back from embracing change?

The Journey Forward

The journey of shedding labels is one of courage and trust.

It’s about stepping into the unknown, breaking down walls, and discovering the expansive, authentic life waiting on the other side.

By embracing intention and letting go of the labels that confine us, we create space for clarity, creativity, and connection.

Remember, the universe rewards those who trust themselves enough to be unapologetically authentic.

You don’t have to have all the answers.

Life is about becoming, about evolving, about trusting the process. And in that process, you’ll find the clarity that matters most — the clarity that comes from being true to yourself, not the clarity imposed by societal labels.
