This is a question I get a lot from clients. My clients want to know what the best workout routine is to help them achieve their goals or to speed up fat loss.
Most clients don’t like my answer…
But the best workout routine is one that you can consistently do and one that you enjoy. There is no specific form of training that is the best.
For some, this could be spin classes or classes in general. This would be awesome for people who love spin classes or other classes, but it would be dreadful for people who hate classes.
For some, this might be hiking. This would be great for people who love hiking but dreadful for people who hate hiking.
For others, this might be strength training, which would be great for people who love lifting weights but would be dreadful for people who hate lifting weights.
If you don’t like a form of exercise, then you simply won’t do it, especially long term. Even if that form of exercise guarantees you achieve your goals. If you hate it, the training doesn’t fit your lifestyle, then you won’t stick to it.
So, now you know that you should enjoy your workouts, but your workouts should also help you achieve your goals.
If your goal is to build muscle muscles, then you probably don’t want a workout routine that focuses on running. Instead, you will want a strength program that focuses on progressive overload with a little cardio sprinkled in.
If your goal is to run a marathon, then you probably don’t want a workout routine that focuses on yoga and flexibility. Instead, you will want a program that focuses on running with 1-2 strength training workouts.
So, the best workout routine for you might not be the best workout routine for someone else.
To figure out the best workout for you, think about what you enjoy, how it fits into your lifestyle, if you can consistently stick to it and if it brings you closer to your goals.
Remember there’s no best workout routine. There’s only the best routine for you!
