Despite both parents being in the medical field, “health and fitness” was never really a part of the equation of my childhood. The last thing you’d catch us doing would be joining forces for an early morning run or shying away from a big, buttery baked potato. However, we kept relatively fit & healthy within the borders of our small farm in South Africa.
Growing up, it was evident that my parents’ shared passion for biology & human sciences was passed down unto me. Before I could even read, I was reciting & identifying our different muscles and muscle groups in order to fall asleep. My father bought me endless anatomy & physiology books, which we poured through together & my mother would patiently sit and show me how to stitch up a wound.
As a child, I was rather… strong willed. My competitive spirit knew no bounds and was extremely evident whenever I participated in school sports, or any of my other extra-circular activities. I loved every minute of moving my body and testing its boundaries.
During my attempt at navigating my teenage years, I poured a majority of my time and effort into my dancing and horse riding. Both offered me a different form of escapism and allowed me to drown out the noise of the world around me. However, I soon reached a plateau in my riding. My horse, Abu Dhabi (who was a child himself), was beginning to grow stronger & stronger by the day, whereas I was falling behind. Driven by my love for honouring my big fur-baby’s needs and wanting to be the best of the best, I started my very own strength journey.
To say I wasted A LOT time trying to figure out this whole “health & fitness” thing would be an understatement. I did just about everything wrong in the books, but hey, I was getting a least a little stronger! I soon made it my mission to research, experiment & test out as many different things as I possibly could within the industry. It gave me the opportunity to marry my love for both human biology & sports.
Unfortunately, my own personal health wasn’t always the best - no matter how much I tried. After multiple rounds of extensive tests, doctor’s office visits and countless blood tests - it came apparent that I had various underlying chronic health issues. No doctor could provide me with the answers that I needed in order to improve my quality of life. So I did what I do naturally, and took matters into my own hands.
I was determined to not let my health conditions dictate my way of living nor was I going to back down and accept a life of chronic pain. My journey with chronic illness has provided me with a unique insight and first-hand experience of how to deal, manage and treat debilitating illness, as well as sparked an even stronger desire to help those who also feel misheard and overlooked due to their physical limitations.
My personal training and nutrition services go beyond the basics—offering customized programs tailored to your unique needs and goals. With a focus on strength, resilience, and real, lasting results, I combine expert fitness coaching with nutrition strategies designed to fuel your progress.
